Nfl Announces New Rule Change

The NFL will implement a new rule modification for select teams in 2024 and for all teams in 2025.

As reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the league has implemented a modification to its uniform policy that permits teams to utilize three distinct designs of helmets.

The Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and Denver Broncos, among others, will be among the teams that can benefit from the new regulation in 2025.

Starting with the 2024 season, all 32 teams will be permitted to don three distinct helmet designs.

The recently implemented regulation represents a significant departure from the policy of 2021, which restricted teams to donning a single helmet exterior per season.

Although teams were granted permission to alter their decals on occasion, the helmet exterior color needed to remain consistent throughout the entirety of the campaign.

The NFL, in 2022, implemented a regulation permitting teams to utilize a maximum of two helmet exterior colors during a given season.

Consequently, certain teams, such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were permitted to don both their customary pewter helmets and vintage white helmets during the same season.
